townships with countless small hotels and apartments, busy markets and lively nightlife. And, in contrast to the typical beach culture, there’s also the historic trading town of Phuket in the centre of the island, with its old shop houses and ornate mansions built by prosperous traders of bygone days.
Phuket hosts its own international airport with incoming flights from not only Bangkok but other regional hubs such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong. In addition Phuket is a convenient centre to visit other southern attractions such as Krabi on the mainland, with its unusual landscape of tall limestone peaks, and Pi Pi Island which became world famous when it was used as the exotic location for an early James Bond movie.
