Phuket Travel Guide from local expats

The largest major tourist centre in Thailand’s south, Phuket is situated on the largest of Thailand thousands of islands. This archetypal island paradise is situated on the western side of the Malay peninsula, situated on the Andaman Sea.  Because it is a large island, Phuket offers almost unrivalled variety, from the most luxurious of resorts on secluded private beaches (often visited by the rich and famous from all over the world), to popular

townships with countless small hotels and apartments, busy markets and lively nightlife. And, in contrast to the typical beach culture, there’s also the historic trading town of Phuket in the centre of the island, with its old shop houses and ornate mansions built by prosperous traders of bygone days.

Phuket hosts its own international airport with incoming flights from not only Bangkok but other regional hubs such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.  In addition Phuket is a convenient centre to visit other southern attractions such as Krabi on the mainland, with its unusual landscape of tall limestone peaks, and Pi Pi Island which became world famous when it was used as the exotic location for an early James Bond movie.
